Social media is buzzing with a debate on the propriety or otherwise of Yaw Tog’s recent comments about British Grime artiste Stormzy.

Yaw Tog told MzGee on TV3 yesterday that Stormzy gave him more exposure by doing a song with him but added that he also made him more popular in Ghana.

“He [Stormzy] made me more popular in this market, you feel me, and I made him more popular here too because people didn’t know Stormzy in Ghana so we both did magic to ourselves and our brands,” he said.

This statement has gotten people debating the content of his message. While some think it was unnecessary and lose talk, others believe he said nothing wrong.

Yaw Tog caught the world’s attention with the release of his song ‘Sore’. This got Stormzy interested in his craft and decided to do a remix with him.

Stormzy even went to Kumasi to shoot the video of the song which also had Kwesi Arthur on.

See some of the reactions below:

I was with Yaw TOG and Stormzy in Kumasi when they shot the remix and trust me noooooo one knew who stormzy was… All the people were clamoring to see yaw and Kwesi. The boy was not wrong with his statement. Y'all tripping https://t.co/zXrWTN8orb

Some of you people be funny oo. I was with Stormzy and the entire team from the airport, to Manhyia, to taking them to lunch and video shoot. Stop your baseless arguments.

Stormzy and the entire team were even sad they had to leave the same day.

Yaw TOG didn't goof.

Yaw Tog didn’t even say anything bad

Some people in Ghana got to know Stormzy through sore remix. Yaw Tog no ankasa😂 be like dem mean am already

Even Stormzy will see there’s no malice in what Yaw Tog said. He answered the question based on the preamble set by the interviewer and if there’s anything I’ll take from it, that’s a young man who knows his worth. He equally made a few more people know who Stormzy is. Fact!

Yaw Tog didn’t say anything wrong in the video so why people vex. He said he made him “more popular” here which is true

For instance, if 2 million people in Ghana knew Stormzy before the track and now 6 million people know him it means he’s more popular in Ghana now or?

— KELEWELE JOINT (@Raph___k) July 8, 2021

You think Stormzy would have come all the way from UK to Ghana if he knew Yaw Tog wouldn’t make him more popular? Yaw Tog made him more popular and that’s the fact you guys ain’t ready to admit cos Blackman no dey like good things give ein brother.

Those attacking Yaw Tog, anor dey barb you people. Don’t some of you listen to Brymo? Is Brymo popular in Ghana? The fact that you’ve been listening to someone over the years doesn’t mean he’s known all over the place. People knew Stormzy but Yaw Tog made him popular. Bam 💥
