Ace journalist and Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr., has called on management of news website, Ghanaweb, to remove his name from their upcoming awards, dubbed Ghanaweb Excellence Awards.
There have been several condemnations of award schemes in recent times after one Dr. Kwame Fordjour aka Dr. UN falsely used the name of the United Nations to hold an awards programme in Ghana.
Mr. Baako, who was nominated in the Media Development category of the maiden awards programme, did not state any particular reason for declining the nomination.
I have seen and read the attached promotional material in circulation. And while I take note of the apparent recognition and acknowledgment inherent in my inclusion on the list of nominees for its Maiden Excellence Awards Project, I humbly request/ appeal that my name and picture(nomination) is/are deleted from the “competition.”
He however added that his decision was not borne out of malice.
