Veteran music producer, Zapp Mallet, has shared some of his most memorable experiences in boarding school at Accra Academy, where he was a member of the school’s band.
Zapp Mallet who enrolled in the prestigious all-boys secondary school in the mid 1970s, revealed on ‘Footprints’ with Samuel Atta-Mensah on Citi TV that although he was a member of the school’s band, he had to improvise during rehearsals due to lack of music instruments.
He said in spite of the difficulties they faced, members of the band persevered and performed at “Pop Chain” music shows.
Zapp Mallet also recalled his experience in cheerleading the school’s athletes with sometimes profane songs.

Regarded as one of Ghana’s most accomplished music producers, Zapp Mallet had his secondary education at Accra Academy from 1975 to 1982.
For three times in a row, 1999, 2000, and 2001, Zapp Mallet was named ‘Producer of the Year’ at the Ghana Music Awards, making him the first and only recording engineer to achieve that.
