Actress, Lydia Forson, continues to raise concerns about the proposed E-levy Bill aka MOMO Tax, which has been laid before Parliament for approval.
The actress dismissed claims made by the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, during a recent Town Hall Meeting that the tax would not affect poor people and that poor citizens are those who make less than GHS 70 annually.
Sharing the video of the Minister’s submission, Lydia Forson added the word, “bentua” which is the local name for enema bulb syringe.
Among the many concerns she has raised about the levy are the possible repercussions which may arise from its implementation, and that she feared that the move will reverse gains made so far towards a cashless society.
In some of her earlier tweets, Lydia Forson argued that Ghanaians already pay tax, and thus would not accept the assertion by those in favour of the bill that Ghanaians do not.

Despite widespread criticism of the E-levy, proposed by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, the government argues that the tax will be an efficient means to raise the country’s tax-to-GDP ratio from 13 percent to a target of 16 percent or higher.
