Abena Korkor has advised young jobseekers to desist from offering themselves up for every job, and rather be specific about what they really want to do.
The mental health advocate said she noticed an erroneous trend after receiving several online messages from young people who wanted her help to get jobs.
“I have a few of you in my dm looking for jobs. When you’re looking for jobs, don’t say you can do anything.”
She assured her followers that she will use her platform to connect young people to job offers by posting their applications on social online.
“State your qualifications and the specific job you want to do — all in 5 sentences, and I will screenshot and post it.”
She said being concise makes it easy for recruiters to understand the applicant and his/her ability to fit a particular position.
Abena Korkor added that even though she does not subscribe to regular nine to five jobs, she thinks it is an important avenue to acquaint one’s self with organizational procedures and structures which are beneficial in the world of business.
