Akon has revealed why his record deal Sarkodie didn’t see the light of day.
He said in an interview with Kakyjay that he signed Sarkodie for his Konvict Music label, but Sark was just not prepared to go to another level.
He said the partnership failed because Sarkodie wasn’t ‘mentally ready’.
“We realised that we really couldn’t work with him yet because he just wasn’t mentally ready to go on that level. We just allowed him to continue moving the way he was moving.”
According to him, Sarkodie was the first artist that they signed out of Ghana, and they had plans to make him bigger.
“Sarkodie was the first artist that we signed out of Ghana,” Akon said.
“We had plans to make him so much bigger, but I think at the time his agenda was more focusing on Ghana, which worked for him. And I think that it was a plan that worked.”
However, he said at the time his agenda was probably more about focusing on Ghana, which worked for him.
Prior to Akon’s interview, he had already said a few years ago that they did not close the 2010 deal with Sarkodie.
Sarkodie had also said in the past that he was never signed by Konvict and that he was only endorsed.
