Sarkodie says he spent a whooping 150,000 dollars in paying for the cost of his new music video for his song, Labadi, which is on his new album, Labadi.
Sarkodie revealed this in a conversation on 3Music TV while promoting his newly released album, “Jamz,” which was released on November 11, 2022.
According to him, he wanted the video to depict the luxury life of having a cruise on the ocean and that concept cost him a huge amount of money to transport the crew between Accra and Greece.
“I think I put way too much into my craft, especially my finances. It’s extremely high,” he noted, while explaining that his music is the major way he sells his brand.
According to him, he spent about $150,000 on the Labadi music video, which covered his production, crew and other expenses he did not want to compromise on.
He detailed that he provided flight for his three models from the USA, and the UK, specifically London, and they were hosted in a villa which cost €30,000; €6,000 daily for the five days spent.
Sarkodie also revealed he booked a private chef and paid his crew handsomely, since he is deliberate about the look and feel of his song.
However, Sarkodie thinks it is money wells spent, as he believes it is a long term investment which will be profitable for him in the end.
“I don’t mind putting all this money because I own my stuff so long term it’s still going to pay off, just that it’s not going to pay off now. I’m not going to recoup this two three years on this song, but it’s forever though. If I didn’t own that, then I wouldn’t put in all this money”.
Jamz comes a year after Sarkodie released his last album, No Pressure, which had popular songs such as Coachella, featuring Tema-based rapper, Kwesi Arthur, and Non-Living Thing, featuring Nigerian afropop artist, Oxlade.
Labadi, features Ghanaian singer, King Promise.
With Jamz, the 2010 Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artist of the Year speaks to a bigger ‘global’ audience about his music and life journey from a modest beginning in Ghana to international stardom.
The entire project, has 10 tracks, featuring Oxlade, Kwesi Arthur, Stormzy and other international superstars.
