Ghana’s old plane-turned-restaurant, La Tante DC-10, has finally been towed away from its airport location in Accra, marking the end of an era.
The restaurant, which opened in 2013, was a popular tourist destination and a unique way to experience Ghanaian culture.
However, the restaurant struggled to stay afloat in recent years, and it was eventually forced to close its doors. In a video that has gone viral, a long truck is seen towing away the remains of the old plane.
The video also shows the extent of the damage that has been caused to the plane, with its windows boarded up and its paint peeling.
The closure of La Tante DC-10 is a sad loss for Ghana, as it represents the end of an important part of the country’s history.
Ghana Airways, the national airline, ceased operations in 2005, and the plane that was converted into a restaurant was one of the last remaining remnants of the airline.
The Ghana Airways plane, which was refurbished and transformed into La Tante DC-10 Restaurant in 2013 through a public-private partnership, and located opposite the Marina Shopping Mall, Accra, has now permanently closed its doors, and the airplane has been towed away.#UTVNews pic.twitter.com/h6lOqR2Rss
