Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Abeiku Santana, has assured Ghanaians of the Authority’s commitment to addressing concerns about unauthorised tour guides operating in James Town.
This follows a viral video on social media featuring an alleged resident of Jamestown, who showcased his modest dwelling, claiming he had been constructing it for the past eight years.
He further stated that with an additional $200 in support, he could complete the structure in no time.
In a statement on Twitter acknowledging concerns raised by popular Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya, Abeiku Santana expressed gratitude for drawing attention to the issue, emphasising the government’s commitment to accountability and national development.
“My dear brother @wode_maya, we sincerely appreciate you bringing this issue to our attention. Under the leadership of our President @JDMahama, we assure you and the people of Ghana that we shall be responsive, accountable, and committed to fostering inclusivity and driving national development,” he stated.

He further noted that investigations are underway to address the concerns, assuring the public that steps will be taken to prevent unauthorised individuals from tarnishing the integrity of Ghana’s tourism industry.
“Your efforts have helped us act swiftly to address the matter. Investigations are ongoing, and we shall ensure that those self-styled guides in James Town do not compromise the credibility of our tourism sector,” he added.
Abeiku Santana further called for continued collaboration in promoting responsible and ethical tourism in Ghana.
