Tyler Perry calls out industry exploitation in fiery speech at Angie Stone’s funeral

Filmmaker and media mogul Tyler Perry delivered a passionate and uncompromising speech at Angie Stone’s funeral, condemning promoters and record labels who fail to pay artists and entertainers.

Speaking with conviction, Perry expressed shock upon learning about how Stone had been mistreated by the music industry, questioning where the money she was owed had gone.

Quoting lyrics from her songs and referencing biblical scripture, Perry made it clear that the injustices faced by artists should no longer be ignored.

His voice remained firm as he spoke about the betrayals Stone endured, emphasising how creatives often struggle despite their immense contributions to the industry.

He called for a change in how artists are treated and insisted that such wrongdoing should be condemned.

Perry also took a moment to offer blessings to Stone’s family, acknowledging their pain while encouraging them to stay strong.

As he was briskly escorted to the podium, he thanked the family and shared a personal reflection, likening Stone’s passing to the loss of his own mother, who died at 64—just a year older than Stone.

He recalled a touching memory of Angie inviting him on stage, as well as a story Taraji P. Henson once told him about the singer. This, he revealed, was what fueled his deeper awareness of how artists are often left without proper compensation and support.

Perry’s words struck a powerful chord, shining a spotlight on an issue that continues to plague the entertainment industry while honoring the resilience and legacy of the Grammy-nominated singer.
