Co-founder of Dance With A Purpose Academy (DWP), Quables, has opened up about the challenges faced by dancers in Ghana, despite their growing influence and massive online following.
In an interview with GhanaWeekend, Quables highlighted the struggle for fair pay, stating that many dancers have built strong brands with millions of followers but are still not earning what they deserve.
“People want you to give them a reason to pay, and when you charge, it feels like ‘just dance.’ But this is a career and a source of income,” he emphasized.
He also pointed out the academy’s need for a bigger rehearsal space, as their current studio is too small to accommodate their growing numbers.
Another challenge, he noted, is changing the mindset of parents who discourage their children from pursuing dance.
“We have changed perceptions, but some parents still don’t see dance as a viable career,” he said, urging parents to support their children’s passion while balancing it with education.
Despite these challenges, Quables remains optimistic about the future of dance in Ghana, believing that step by step, the industry will continue to grow.
