TD Jakes’ daughter replaces him as head pastor of Potter’s House Church

Renowned American pastor and founder of The Potter’s House Church, Bishop T.D. Jakes, has announced that he will pass on the role of senior pastor to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and son-in-law, Touré Roberts, after years of leadership.

The 67-year-old pastor was visibly emotional while making the announcement to the congregation during Sunday, 27th April’s service at The Potter’s House Church in Dallas, Texas, where he revealed that Sarah and Touré will officially take on their new roles as senior pastors in July 2025.

Despite stepping down, Bishop Jakes will remain on The Potter’s House Board of Directors to ensure a smooth transition and continued guidance for the church.

“You have been faithful to God, and you have been faithful to me,” Jakes said, fighting back tears during the service.

This decision follows a health scare, as Bishop Jakes experienced a minor heart attack while preaching in November 2024.

“I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me and you being sheep without a shepherd,” Jakes explained during the announcement.

Reflecting on the incident in a March interview on the Today Show, he shared that he collapsed during the service but did not realise the seriousness of his condition until he was hospitalised.

Doctors later informed him he had suffered a major heart attack, and without immediate medical intervention, he might not have survived.

“The right side of my heart had completely stopped giving blood at all. And as long as I was up preaching, I felt fine. But when I sat down, the adrenaline dropped, revealing that I was preaching with half of my heart closed due to a clot,” Jakes recounted.

He expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support from around the world, calling his survival and recovery a miracle.

Founded in 1996, The Potter’s House Church is a non-denominational, multicultural church based in Dallas, boasting a congregation of over 30,000 members and branches in North Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denver.
