Ghanaian MC David Adjei Frimpong, aka MC Portfolio, has responded to backlash over accepting a GH₵5,000 gift from Shatta Wale during a live TV appearance in Kumasi, despite his known support for Stonebwoy.
It will be recalled that MC Portfolio appeared on the same show with dancehall artiste Shatta Wale some months back, during which Shatta Wale offered him some money.
This raised questions of betrayal due to his affiliation with Stonebwoy at the time.
However, in an interview on *Ghana Weekend Spotlight* with Jeffrey Fiifi Annan, Portfolio clarified that his decision was rooted in courtesy, not betrayal.
“I don’t disrespect people. Shatta Wale be superstar. Am I going to embarrass Shatta Wale when he has given me the money on live TV? I took the money… I even left it for the band’s people,” he said.
Portfolio emphasised his prior professional relationship with Shatta Wale, including coordinating the Kumerica Invasion project without seeking payment.
He dismissed claims of disloyalty to Stonebwoy, noting that the GH₵5,000 was insignificant compared to the career boost from Stonebwoy’s public acknowledgment, and reaffirmed his commitment to principles over fanbase rivalries.
