Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, is mourning the passing of her father, Mr. Gomashie, who died at of 106.
The veteran actress-turned-politician shared the heartbreaking news on her Facebook page on May 26, accompanied by a heartfelt tribute and a hymn that reflects her faith during this difficult time.
She wrote:
Stanza 1
BEGONE, unbelief; my Saviour is near,
And for my relief will surely appear:
By prayer let me wrestle, and He will perform;
With Christ in the vessel, I smile at the storm.
The post continued through all five stanzas, each emphasising God’s love, provision, and enduring promise to sustain His people through pain and sorrow.
Mr. Gomashie turned 106 on March 17, a milestone Dzifa Gomashie and her family joyfully celebrated.
As part of her tribute, she also updated her Facebook profile picture to one taken with her father during his birthday celebration—an image now serving as a powerful symbol of love, legacy, and loss.
Messages of condolence have poured in from colleagues, the creative arts community, and Ghanaians across the country who have followed Dzifa Gomashie’s inspiring journey in public service and the arts.
