Nollywood veteran Jim Iyke has ignited debate by criticising modern feminism, claiming it has strayed from its roots and now “borders on criminality,” in a recent interview with The EchoRoom.
The 48-year-old actor praised early feminist movements for tackling patriarchy and gender inequality but argued that today’s feminism has been hijacked.
“I consider it a crime, a kind of assault,” Iyke said in the interview on August 7, alleging that modern feminism stemmed from a magazine’s sales-driven campaign targeting women.
He claims this sparked a cultural shift, pushing an ideology where some women reject men’s roles, embracing a “we don’t need a man” mindset that has escalated into a new cultural standard.
Iyke’s remarks have stirred conversation about the evolution of feminism and its societal impact, with the actor asserting that the movement’s original purpose has been distorted by commercial motives.
