Ghana International School (GIS) is marking its 70th anniversary with a call on Ghanaians to take pride in its global achievements.
Established in September 1955, before Ghana’s independence, GIS pioneered multiracial, non-sectarian education at a time when such a vision was revolutionary.
Over seven decades, GIS has grown into one of Africa’s premier international schools, boasting a 100% university acceptance rate and sending graduates to world-class institutions.
GIS is also the first and only school in Ghana with dual international accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), demonstrating its commitment to global educational standards.
Speaking at a press conference, GIS Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mary Ashun, said, “At 70 years, we celebrate academic excellence built on a collaborative spirit, bringing together people of different races to create something exceptional. We hope all Ghanaians can be proud of this achievement.”
The anniversary will be marked with a coffee table book documenting GIS history and a documentary premiere at Silverbird Theatre on September 2, 2025.
With students from over 30 nationalities, GIS continues to set the standard for African educational excellence, preparing leaders who thrive locally and globally.
