The much-talked-about Ghanaian reality series, GH QUEENS, premiered its third season on September 16 at the Subtle Class Event Centre in Madina, introducing viewers to a new lineup of bold and dynamic women.
Season 3 features six diverse personalities: socialite Efia Odo, musician Sefa, influencer Cookie The Bossette, content creator Queenie, medical doctor Djifa, business owner Kalby, musician Coco Treyy, and fashion model Queenie. Previous seasons spotlighted other well-known names such as Hajia Forreal and Shatta Mitchy.
In an interview at the premiere, executive producer Ms. Ayebea Darko described GH QUEENS as a platform that gives Ghanaian women’s stories the visibility they deserve.
“It follows bold women in Ghana and entertains audiences with their lives, friendships, relationships, and the general stuff that goes on with them,” she said. “I feel like women in Ghana don’t get their stories heard as much, so GH QUEENS is putting those stories on the screen.”
Reflecting on the show’s journey, Ms. Darko noted that Season 1 was experimental, Season 2 exceeded her expectations, but Season 3 is her favourite so far. “This is actually my best season,” she revealed.
Authentic Storytelling, No Scripts
Addressing questions about the authenticity of reality television, Ms. Darko stressed that everything on GH QUEENS is unscripted. “Everything is real. If there’s a fight, if there’s a quarrel—every single thing is real,” she said.
She added that casting is not about fame but about relatability and authenticity. “You don’t need to be the biggest girl in the industry. You just need to be authentic and have a character that makes people want to watch you.”
Why Not GH KINGS?
When asked why there isn’t a male version of the show, Ms. Darko quipped that men often don’t deliver the same entertainment value. “When I put men in front of the camera, the women are off the show. Also, they’re boring. Men are talking about women, but they are watching,” she joked.
Looking Ahead
The series has already won international recognition, picking up an award in the U.S. for Season 2. With Season 3 now live on YouTube, Ms. Darko says fans can expect even more drama, fun, and relatable moments, while hinting at other projects in the pipeline.
“Everybody should just watch it. I’m not going to spoil anything,” she teased.
