Award-winning Ghanaian singer Wendy Asiamah Addo, known professionally as Wendy Shay, is opening up about the lessons she has learned in her seven-year journey through the music industry.
Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie on Hitz FM on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Survivor hitmaker reflected on her rise to fame, describing it as a journey marked by both victories and challenges.
When asked about the biggest lesson her career has taught her, Wendy Shay said that “success doesn’t come easy.” According to her, every great achievement comes with obstacles that test and strengthen one’s resolve.
“It may not look like it, but I’ve been looked down upon and undermined too many times — not only because of when I came, but more because I’m a woman,” she shared. “You know it’s not easy for women in this industry, and Doreen, you can attest to that, right?”
Despite these struggles, Wendy Shay says she has learned to remain resilient, patient, and focused, viewing every setback as an opportunity for growth. Her experiences, she noted, have deepened her belief in hard work, faith, and self-worth.
Seven years on, Wendy Shay has evolved into one of Ghana’s most consistent and influential female artistes, celebrated not only for her chart-topping hits but also for her advocacy for women in entertainment. Her reflection stands as a powerful reminder of the determination it takes to thrive in Ghana’s music scene — especially for women breaking barriers while chasing greatness.
