The widow and sister of the late highlife musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, are calling for an independent and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death which happened in Ghana on July 26, 2025.
In a statement signed and issued by the family secretary on behalf of Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh (widow) and Ms. Ernestina Fosuh (elder sister of the deceased), the family expressed concern over what they described as three conflicting accounts of the events leading to the musician’s death.
According to the family, an eyewitness account indicated that on the night of the incident, Daddy Lumba called a friend to his residence, but the friend was allegedly prevented from seeing him by a woman living with the late musician. The friend reportedly left after waiting for two hours, only to receive a call later that Mr. Fosuh had died at home.
A police and coroner’s report from the Ghana Police Service to the Coroner at the District Magistrate Court in Accra stated that the late musician, who was diabetic, complained of pain in his legs and waist on July 24 and was taken to the Sunshine Diagnostic Centre for an MRI scan. The report said he was placed under anaesthesia due to agitation and later developed severe pain, leading to his transfer to the Bank Hospital, where he passed away two days later.
However, a third account from Ms. Priscilla O., who was reportedly staying with Mr. Fosuh, claimed that he had died at home and that she had cleaned and dressed his body before calling a friend to help transport him to the hospital. The family says Ms. Priscilla O. has since given inconsistent and contradictory statements about the events.
These conflicting narratives, the family said, have raised serious concerns about the true cause of death and whether appropriate medical and investigative procedures were followed.
To this end, the widow and sister of the late musician have officially contacted the German Embassy in Accra, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in Wiesbaden, and the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) in Berlin for assistance.
The family has also appealed to the Ghana Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to question Ms. Priscilla O. and Mr. Philip Kwabena A. (also known as Roman Fada), to help uncover the truth about the singer’s death.
According to the statement, all relevant documents, including medical reports, official correspondence, and confirmation from Transition Funeral Home, have been submitted to both Ghanaian and German authorities.
“We, the family of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, loved him dearly and are devastated by the unclear and conflicting reports surrounding his death,” the statement read.
“We have confidence that both the German and Ghanaian authorities will work together to uncover the truth, ensure justice, and bring transparency to this painful situation,” it added.
