Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has confirmed making a personal donation to support victims of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, describing his gesture as a humanitarian act born out of love and solidarity with the Caribbean nation.

Speaking in an interview with George Quaye on Prime Time on Wednesday November 12, the “Melissa” hitmaker expressed his deep sympathy for those affected by the storm, which caused widespread destruction across Jamaica.

“My heart goes out to everyone in Jamaica affected by Hurricane Melissa,” Shatta Wale said. “This wasn’t just a storm — it was a real national challenge, and as Africans and Caribbean people, we are all one global family.”

When asked about reports circulating in Jamaican media that he had donated $50,000 to assist victims, Shatta Wale neither confirmed nor denied the exact figure but acknowledged that he had indeed sent financial support.

“Yes, I’ve sent something, but I don’t want to disclose the amount,” he stated. “For me, supporting Vybz Kartel and the people of Jamaica wasn’t about publicity — it was just a humanitarian decision. When you’re blessed, you must also be a blessing to others.”

The award-winning artiste explained that his contribution was also a way of showing unity and appreciation for the influence of Jamaican culture on Ghanaian music.

“Vybz Kartel has inspired generations across the world, including Ghana,” he said. “It felt right to stand with him, his family, and the wider Jamaican community during this difficult time.”

Shatta Wale ended the interview by urging others to extend support in any small way they can.

“I’d like to urge everybody — musicians, actors, journalists — if you can, in your own small way, please donate,” he appealed.

Though the exact amount remains undisclosed, Shatta Wale’s gesture has earned praise from fans and the international dancehall community as a symbol of Pan-African unity and compassion.
