The funeral of legendary Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba is set to take place today, Saturday, December 13, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, after a High Court ruling allowed the burial to go ahead.
The Accra High Court gave the go-ahead after the applicants in the family dispute failed to pay the GH₵2 million required to keep an injunction that had stopped the release of the musician’s body. The court had earlier made it clear that if the payment was not made, Transitions Funeral Home would be allowed to release the body for burial.
The decision brings to an end months of court battles that delayed the funeral and caused tension within the family.
Speaking after the ruling on Friday, December 12, lead counsel for the defendants, Dominic Osei, said the decision was a relief to the family, fans, and the children of the late musician. He noted that the prolonged legal process had been distressing and unnecessary.
He urged Ghanaians to attend the funeral and honour Daddy Lumba, calling on fans to set aside differences and come together to celebrate his life and musical legacy.
With the legal issues now resolved, the nation is able to say its final goodbye as Daddy Lumba is laid to rest today.
