Wendy Shay: Parental interference makes mentoring difficult

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Wendy Shay has ignited online discussions after opening up about the difficulties that come with mentoring another person’s child.

In a post shared on her official TikTok page on Monday January 5, the singer hinted at frustrations she has encountered in the process, pointing particularly to parental involvement.

“The hardest part of mentoring someone else’s child is often the parents’ interference. What’s all this?” she wrote.

The post quickly sparked conversations across social media, with varied reactions from fans and followers. While some users suggested that Wendy Shay should step back and allow the parents to mentor and nurture their own child, others argued that parental interference would be unnecessary if the mentorship was being handled properly.

Amid the debate, some fans are also speculating whether Wendy Shay’s comments are connected to any of the young girls she has publicly promised to support and mentor.

Not long ago, the singer took two young girls, Tracy Shay and Korkor Shay, under her care, pledging to mentor them and support their education until they complete their tertiary studies. Wendy Shay has so far remained true to that promise, consistently showing support and care for the girls.

Wendy Shay met the girls after they gained attention online for creating content using her music, which significantly boosted the visibility of one of her songs. Moved by their creativity and the impact they had on her work, the singer vowed to support and guide them.

Despite her goodwill, Wendy Shay’s association with the girls has, over the months, generated mixed reactions and public debate. However, this marks the first time the singer has openly hinted at any challenges or frustrations related to the arrangement.

While Wendy Shay has not provided further details or clarified the specific situation behind her post, the statement has once again brought conversations about mentorship, boundaries, and parental involvement into the spotlight.
