Renowned Ghanaian media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah, has advised parents to allow their children the freedom to choose their own career paths while offering them the necessary support to grow and succeed.

Speaking in a YouTube interview posted by KonnectedMind on Friday, January 30, 2026, she shared personal experiences from raising her son, explaining how giving children room to explore their interests helps them develop confidence and independence.

According to Anamoah, her son went through several career phases while growing up, including aspirations of becoming a footballer, a rapper, and later a graphic designer.

Rather than discouraging him, she chose to support his interests, even financing a music video he produced and uploaded to YouTube.

“Whatever you want to do, if it makes you happy, go ahead,” she said, noting that she respected her son’s choices even when she believed some of the phases would pass.

Anamoah revealed that after exploring creative interests, her son travelled to the United States for tertiary education, where he initially studied business economics. However, in his second year, he decided to change his course of study.

“He came back and said he didn’t like business economics. I told him, whatever you want to do, feel free to do it. As long as I’m alive and I can take care of you, no problem,” she stated.

Her son later transitioned into Information Technology, graduated successfully, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in artificial intelligence.

The veteran broadcaster attributed her son’s success to the independence she instilled in him from an early age, especially as a single mother balancing work and parenting.

She explained that her son learned to take care of himself at home, making him comfortable being on his own even when she travelled for work.
