Highlife legend Kojo Antwi says his book, “Mr Music Man – The Journey,” was born out of a personal need to document his story, something he believes many great artistes failed to do for their generation.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily with Nana Tuffuor on Channel One TV on Thursday February 12, the Afro-pop icon revealed that the book is structured into three main parts, beginning with “discovering my passion.”
According to him, the publication takes readers through his early life, his days as a band member, studio experiences, and the lessons that shaped his decades-long career.
Beyond telling his story, Kojo Antwi said the book fills a gap he experienced as a young musician searching for guidance.
“Most of the time, you don’t have the actors writing the book,” he noted.
He explained that while growing up, he looked for books about music legends he admired, including Nana Ampadu, Pat Thomas, Agya Koo Nimo, as well as international groups like Earth, Wind & Fire and Kool & The Gang, hoping to learn from their successes and mistakes.
“I wanted something to read on them because I wanted to learn where things didn’t go right for them so that I could shape my world, but there was nothing,” he said.
That absence, he explained, pushed him to take matters into his own hands.
“At a certain point, I felt I had to put my ideas together as a book,” he added.
“Mr Music Man – The Journey” is set to be launched on February 13 and is expected to serve not only as a memoir, but also as a guide for aspiring musicians seeking insight from one of Ghana’s most enduring music icons.
