Ghanaian singer Sefa has opened up about a hurtful social media comment that deeply affected her during the early stages of her music career.
Speaking during an interview with Doreen Avio on Hitzfm on Tuesday, February 24, the musician recalled a moment when criticism online pushed her into an emotional breaking point.
According to Sefa, the incident occurred when she went through comments on X, formerly Twitter, an experience she says changed her relationship with the platform permanently.
She revealed that a commenter claimed her former label boss, D Black, was wasting money on her, describing her as “talentless” and undeserving of the investment being made in her career.
The comment, Sefa said, was especially painful because it dismissed the hard work and dedication she put in behind the scenes, efforts the public rarely sees.
“You don’t know how much work I put in behind the scenes. You don’t know how much investment I put in,” she explained, adding that people often judge her solely based on her appearance on social media.
She expressed frustration over being labeled as just a “pretty face” with no substance, a stereotype she described as disturbing and emotionally draining.
The singer admitted that the comment broke her emotionally and forced her to retreat inward for a moment. However, instead of giving up, the criticism became fuel for her determination.
“That was where the vim and the vigor came,” she said, noting that the experience pushed her to work harder and prove that she was deserving of the belief and investment placed in her.
Today, Sefa says the painful experience helped shape her mindset, reminding her that success in the industry requires resilience and the determination to rise above negative opinions.
