Veteran Ghanaian actress Irene Opare has clarified that most kissing scenes in movies are not real, explaining that filmmakers often rely on camera tricks to create the illusion of romance on screen.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 Ghana, the veteran Ghanaian actress said many viewers mistakenly believe actors actually kiss during filming. However, she noted that in most cases, techniques are used to make the moment appear authentic.
According to Opare, while some actors may choose to kiss for real, that has rarely been the case in her long career.
“You know, I have to explain it today. People think that we kiss for real. No,” she said.
The actress, who has spent about 45 years in the film industry, disclosed that she has acted in numerous romantic scenes but insists they are usually staged.
“If I have to act for 45 years of my life, I’ve done a lot of kisses. But it is not for real,” she explained.
Opare added that about 99 percent of the kissing scenes she has performed were created using camera positioning and acting techniques rather than actual physical contact.
“For me, most of my kisses, about 99% of my kisses are not real because there’s always a camera trick,” she said.
Explaining further, she said actors simply place their lips close together while the camera angle and body positioning create the impression of a passionate kiss.
“You put our lips together, the head should turn, and it is like we are kissing—passionate, serious,” she noted, adding jokingly, “Lips are tight!”
