Rap icon Sarkodie has disclosed that his long-anticipated gospel album is nearly complete and will be released soon.
Speaking to Aaron Akinyemi on BBC News Africa moments before his Rapperholic concert in the UK on Friday, March 6, Sarkodie shared exciting updates for fans.
When asked about new music, the rapper said, “this year, I have a gospel album. We are like less than 90% there, you know, so that album and a couple of singles here and there that I’ll be dropping.”
Reports indicate that Sarkodie has been working on this project for over eight years, making it one of the most anticipated releases in his career.
Sarkodie also addressed claims that he invented the Azonto music genre, one of Ghana’s most popular cultural exports.
“I did not invent the Azonto dance, that is not true,” he clarified.
“I’m definitely part of the people who made Azonto what it is worldwide. It was something already in the Ga community that was happening, you know. The dance was already there,” the rapper added.
Fans at the Rapperholic concert witnessed Sarkodie’s dynamic performance, but it was his disclosure about the gospel album that left many buzzing with anticipation.
With nearly a decade of work poured into the project, expectations are high for what could be a transformative addition to his musical legacy.
