Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has stated that he would not mind contesting the parliamentary seat for Ablekuma South if residents call on him to do so ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM on Wednesday, March 11, the artiste, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., stated that he would consider entering politics if the calls from the public, especially constituents of Ablekuma South, become stronger.
“If people call on me to enter politics, I will do it. I will contest the Ablekuma South seat, but I don’t want to belong to any political party. It will be more as an independent candidate,” he said.
He explained that his interest in possibly going into politics would be driven by a desire to serve the people rather than personal gain.
“I am not coming into it [politics] because I want to be rich; rather, I want to serve the interests of the people,” he noted.
Shatta Wale also emphasised that timing would be key should he decide to take the political path.
“Ghana is a funny country. Sometimes, when you decide to do something, that is when you have some people talk here and there. But I believe at the right time, things will fall in place,” he added.
According to Shatta Wale, any political ambition he pursues would be backed by clear policies aimed at improving governance and development.
Despite these remarks, the musician maintained that his main focus for now remains his personal life and music career, though he does not rule out the possibility of entering politics in the future.
