American actor Michael B. Jordan has made history at the Academy Awards, winning his first-ever Oscar for Best Actor for his dual role as twins Smoke and Stack in the 2025 film Sinners.
In an emotional acceptance speech, Jordan disclosed that his father had travelled all the way from Ghana to witness the historic moment.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, he told the audience, “Man, God is good,” as he reflected on the journey that led to the career-defining achievement.
Jordan also paid tribute to his longtime collaborator, director Ryan Coogler, and honoured Black Hollywood pioneers who paved the way for actors like him.
He acknowledged legendary Oscar winners, including Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry and Will Smith.
The actor also expressed appreciation to fans who supported the film at the box office.
“I want to say thank you to everybody at home who went to see the movie once, twice, three, four times. You made this movie what it is. I love you.”
Jordan becomes the sixth Black man in history to win the Best Actor award at the Oscars.
The win marks a long-awaited recognition after he was previously overlooked for standout performances in Fruitvale Station, Black Panther and Creed.
The award-winning actor has also previously expressed admiration for Ghana.
In a 2024 interview on The Culture Joint podcast, Jordan shared his desire to visit the country, praising its rich history, vibrant culture and welcoming atmosphere.
