Actor and filmmaker Jeffrey Nortey is calling for the introduction of new faces into Ghana’s movie industry, even as he acknowledges steady growth within the creative space.
In a video shared by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, April 1, Nortey noted that while the industry is not yet at its peak, there are clear signs of progress across film, music, and digital content creation.
“It’s growing. I mean, I am part of the industry, and I’m growing as an individual, I’m growing as a brand, so obviously it’s growing,” he said, adding that the sector still has room for improvement.
However, the actor emphasised that one of the key areas that needs attention is the inclusion of fresh talent.
According to him, audiences are increasingly eager to see new faces on screen rather than the same familiar names.
“We need new talents, we need new faces. A lot of people are tired of seeing the same old faces. There are great talents out there; let’s scout them and put them on,” he urged.
Beyond talent discovery, Nortey also encouraged filmmakers to explore alternative platforms for distributing their content.
He pointed out that while many Ghanaians focus on global streaming services, platforms like YouTube offer accessible opportunities for filmmakers to showcase their work.
“We should produce more good films. There are a lot of platforms, but people don’t know about them. Ghanaians are targeting Netflix and Prime, but there’s YouTube,” he explained.
Nortey believes that with consistent production, openness to new talent, and better use of available platforms, Ghana’s film industry can continue on its path of growth.
