Ghanaian artiste Rcee has opened up about his unexpected journey into music, disclosing that peer pressure played a key role in shaping his career path.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on Monday, April 20, the singer shared that his original dream was to become a professional footballer.
According to Rcee, he was deeply passionate about football growing up and even came close to pursuing it professionally.
“About 10 years ago, if you had asked me what I wanted to do, I would have said football because I was really, really into it. I almost went professional,” he said.
However, his path took a different turn during high school, when music began to take centre stage, largely due to the influence of his peers.
“I could sing back then, but I never had plans to pursue music seriously. It actually started out of peer pressure—but a good kind of peer pressure,” he explained.
Rcee recounted how he was surrounded by friends who were into rap, which inspired him to try it out himself.
“Boys were rapping, and I decided to join in because I knew I could do it and even do it better. One day, they pushed me on stage, and I performed. The reaction from the crowd was amazing, and that’s when I started loving it,” he said.
He added that performing at school events, especially during entertainment weeks where they visited girls’ schools, further fuelled his passion for music.
“I loved the vibe—performing, the energy, the attention. That’s when I realised this could actually be my calling,” he noted.
Rcee’s story highlights how what started as casual experimentation influenced by friends eventually evolved into a full-fledged music career.
