Prophet NanaSei Opoku Sarkodie, head pastor of Potter’s City, has urged young people to abstain from sex until marriage, stressing the long-term emotional and social implications of premarital relationships.
In a video shared on the church’s official X page on Tuesday, April 21, the preacher advised teenagers and unmarried individuals to make a conscious decision to preserve their virginity until marriage.
According to him, while remaining a virgin does not guarantee salvation, it helps individuals avoid what he described as “fleshly problems.”
“Make a vow to marry in your virginity. It will not take you to heaven, but it will help you from all fleshly problems,” he stated.
Drawing from personal experience, Prophet Sarkodie expressed regret over not marrying as a virgin, recounting an encounter with a former girlfriend from his school days.
He suggested that past intimate relationships can sometimes affect how individuals are perceived or respected later in life.
“I wish I had married as a virgin,” he admitted, adding that some past partners may struggle to accord respect even when one attains a higher social or spiritual status.
He further cautioned that exposure to basic sexual education at a young age should not be mistaken as a green light to experiment, warning that the consequences of premarital sex can be significant.
“Just because you were taught biology doesn’t mean you should try it. The implications are dangerous,” he said.
The pastor concluded by repeatedly urging young people to “stay away” from sex, describing it as a “life-producing act” that should be reserved for marriage.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some supporting his stance on abstinence, while others debate the practicality and tone of his message in today’s society.
