Popular former teacher and content creator Teacher Kwadwo was allegedly dismissed from the Ghana Education Service after being absent from work for an entire year, according to former Ministry of Education spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng.
Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Wednesday, April 22, Kwasi Kwarteng addressed long-standing speculation about Teacher Kwadwo’s disappearance from public view, insisting that his dismissal was based on professional misconduct rather than political victimisation.
“There is a guy called Teacher Kwadwo, and when he was sacked…for about a year, he had not been at post. No institution anywhere in the world will normalise that,” he claimed.
Kwarteng’s comments offer a fresh perspective, suggesting that absenteeism may have been the key reason for his dismissal.
The former spokesperson made the remarks while discussing broader concerns about discipline within Ghana’s education sector, particularly in relation to the suspension and transfer of teachers and headteachers.
He argued that public sector workers should not be seen as immune to disciplinary measures and must be held accountable when they violate established rules.
“We create an impression as though when you come into government or public service, somehow you become immune to disciplinary measures,” he said.
Kwarteng also criticised instances where school authorities bypass official communication structures to address challenges, especially by involving political actors.
“If a headmaster believed that there was no food in the school, there are channels of communication… You don’t go and invite a political party to come and talk to students. Would that solve the problem?” he questioned.
He maintained that such actions would attract strict sanctions if he were in a position of authority.
“If a headmaster does this and I’m the Minister for Education or the GES boss, I will sack him… Why are we doing so much indiscipline?” he added.
His remarks have reignited conversations around Teacher Kwadwo’s exit and the need for accountability within the education system, as well as the importance of separating verified facts from speculation in public discourse.
Teacher Kwadwo gained widespread attention a few years ago for his humorous and educational social media content, often involving his students and creative video compilations. However, his sudden absence from the media landscape has left many Ghanaians questioning what led to his exit, with various unverified claims circulating over time.
