Sound engineer King Dee has raised concerns about what he describes as repeated police harassment linked to his physical appearance, particularly his dreadlocks.
Speaking in a recent media interview, King Dee said he is frequently targeted by officers who associate his look with criminal or deviant behaviour.
“I am often harassed by the police because of my locks,” he stated.
King Dee pushed back against stereotypes surrounding people in the music industry, stressing that being involved in music does not equate to a lifestyle of substance abuse.
“People don’t live wayward lives because they’re doing music. I don’t smoke or drink,” he said, adding that personal choices should not be blamed on one’s profession.
He further criticised what he described as profiling and misplaced priorities within law enforcement, noting that individuals should not be judged based on appearance.
Despite his experiences, King Dee remains resolute about maintaining his identity.
“I will never cut my locks because of the police,” he said, adding that he has kept his dreadlocks for about 20 years.
