Lekzy Decomic has expressed concern over recent reports of xenophobic attacks targeting Ghanaians and other African nationals in South Africa, describing the situation as deeply troubling and divisive.
The comedian said that South Africa is his favourite country of all the places he has visited.
“Honestly, South Africa happens to be my favourite country among all the countries I have visited. It’s fun, there is life in there. But it’s quite unfortunate they are attacking our own, that is, Ghanaians living in South Africa,” he said.
Lekzy Decomic suggested that the root of such tensions may be more complex than it appears, pointing to historical and social influences.
“If you know the history of South Africa, you know that the indoctrination and the programming of hating people of the same colour are much deeper than you think,” he noted, adding that frustrations are often misdirected at fellow Africans instead of addressing broader systemic issues.
He questioned why African nationals become targets despite what he described as larger structural inequalities within the country.
Calling for unity across the continent, the comedian emphasised the need for Africans to see beyond colonial-era divisions.
“I feel like we should all see ourselves as people of Africa. If not because of these white people, probably there would be no borders. If you are sitting in a plane, you realise that the borders you see on maps, up in the sky, the land is just bare. There are no lines dividing us. So we are just the same people moving on the same surface of the earth,” he said.
Lekzy Decomic also highlighted his personal efforts to promote cross-cultural collaboration, revealing that he has previously hosted South African performers on his platform, with the gesture being reciprocated.
“Last year, I brought about two South Africans to grace my stage, and they’ve also reciprocated the same gesture,” he shared.
He concluded by urging continental leadership, particularly the African Union (AU), to take decisive action to address the issue.
“I don’t know where this energy is coming from, but I believe the AU can rectify it and fix this,” he stated.
