Highlife musician-turned-minister Yaw Siki has disclosed that he occasionally revisits his old secular songs while ministering, using them as a tool to connect with people and illustrate his spiritual journey.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on Tuesday, April 28, the former hitmaker explained that briefly performing parts of his past music helps audiences understand who he used to be and how far he has come in his faith.
According to him, the gesture often captures attention during speaking engagements, especially among those unfamiliar with his background.
“You know, when I go for programmes, even when I go to testify, sometimes for some of the adults to know who I am and where I’m coming from, I personally sometimes even sing it a bit… then they pay attention,” he said.
Yaw Siki noted that once he gets that attention, he uses the moment to share his testimony, emphasising the transformation in his life and what he describes as the impact of God’s intervention.
He added that hearing his old songs being played no longer affects him, as he has moved on from that phase of his life.
“I just brush it off and then move on,” he stated.
The musician-turned-preacher also highlighted how his past experiences shape his approach to ministry, stressing that they allow him to relate to people from different walks of life without being judgmental.
“I have been there before… if I meet people in certain situations, I know how to relate to them… I’ll take my time and be patient with them,” he explained.
Yaw Siki’s comments offer insight into how he blends his past in secular music with his present calling, using his personal story as a bridge to reach and inspire others.
