Musical duo Lali and Lola have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama over what they describe as Ghana’s “lost digital revenue” from music distribution platforms.
The petition, which was shared via their official Instagram handle, called for urgent government intervention to streamline how digital earnings from Ghanaian creatives are taxed, tracked, and repatriated.
Central to their proposal is a request for the introduction of a structured tax treaty framework between Ghana and major digital platforms.
According to the duo, such a system would help formalise and protect income generated by Ghanaian musicians, content creators, and digital entrepreneurs operating on international platforms.
They further argue that gaps in the current digital revenue ecosystem have resulted in significant earnings being withheld or not fully repatriated into the local economy, a situation they describe as “lost digital revenue.”
Lali and Lola are also advocating for mechanisms to ensure the repatriation of withheld earnings, emphasising the need for transparency and fair compensation for Ghanaian creatives in the digital space.
Their petition adds to growing discussions around the regulation of digital income and the evolving structure of Ghana’s creative economy in the age of global streaming and online distribution.
