TV personality and fashion commentator Nancy Adobea Anane has shared her thoughts on the true purpose of red carpet fashion, stressing that celebrity looks should go beyond appearance and carry a meaningful message.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Tuesday, May 12, Nancy explained that some fashion personalities, particularly the dramatic and creative-style personalities, are designed for people in the public eye.

According to her, these styles are not meant for everyday dressing but rather for individuals whose careers demand attention and influence, including actors, musicians and media personalities.

“These are not for everyday people. These are for extraordinary people, people with public careers, people that want and deserve attention for what they do,” she said.

Nancy further noted that red carpet appearances should be intentional and symbolic, rather than simply focused on looking attractive.

“The look is not only supposed to flatter you, it is also supposed to have a message,” she explained.

Using Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame as an example, she praised his recent red carpet appearance at the TGMAs, saying his outfit successfully communicated a deeper concept and advocacy.

According to her, the musician’s use of yellow and gold tones reflected a carefully planned narrative tied to the message he wanted to project for the night.

“He didn’t just dress up, he turned up with something that he was advocating,” she stated.

Nancy added that storytelling through fashion is an important part of building a personal brand, especially for celebrities whose influence extends beyond entertainment.

“That is when you know you are building a personal brand. So you are not just coming to be eye candy, you are eye candy with something to affect,” she said.

Her comments stem from recent conversations online about the just-ended TGMAs red carpet and the growing role of fashion as a form of expression and advocacy on celebrity red carpets.
