Kuami Eugene has opened up about the most painful period of his life and career, disclosing that within two years he lost his grandmother and father, survived a near-fatal accident, and faced intense public scrutiny online.
Speaking on TV3 Ghana’s Late Afternoon Show, the musician disclosed that he was hospitalised for about four months after the accident, which halted his music career and left him without income from performances.
“I had an accident in which I almost lost my life and then I had to be hospitalised for about four months. For about four months, everything was on hold. No show. No show means no income.”
He said he was fortunate to have savings that helped cover his medical bills, travel and funeral expenses.
Kuami Eugene also recounted how some social media users falsely claimed he had died during his recovery period, describing the experience as emotionally draining. He noted that celebrities are often expected to remain strong despite personal struggles.
“A lot of people on social media were saying, ‘Kuami Eugene is dead right now. What they are showing you are videos from the past. That’s the price you pay for being a celebrity. People expect you to be strong all the time. Sometimes they just want to poke you to see if you bleed a little bit.”
Reflecting on the difficult chapter, the award-winning artiste described it as the darkest moment he has experienced since rising to fame, but expressed gratitude for surviving and overcoming the challenges.
