Comedian and actor Funny Face has opened up about one of the darkest periods of his life, disclosing that he once wanted to end it all while battling depression and a mental breakdown.
Speaking in an interview with the Headless YouTuber, the comedian disclosed that he had become exhausted by life and felt consumed by emotional pain.
“I wanted to die, I was tired of life and so I wanted to die, but death too no dey come,” he said.
Funny Face recounted a moment that unexpectedly changed his perspective and made him realise that deep down, he still wanted to live.
According to him, after buying kenkey and fish worth GH¢40, he handed the seller GH¢50 and found himself waiting for his GH¢10 change.
“That was when I realised I wasn’t ready to die because what was I using the change for if I really wanted to die?” he said jokingly before adding, “You go pay cemetery tollgate.”
The actor further reflected on suicide and depression, suggesting that many people battling such thoughts are not necessarily seeking death itself, but rather an end to emotional suffering.
“Most of the people who commit suicide, they don’t want to die. They want the pain to end and they think it is only death that can make the pain end.”
Funny Face, who says he has emerged stronger from his difficult experiences, also referenced his recent involvement with the National Youth Authority’s “Red Means Stop” campaign, explaining that his journey through depression has equipped him to support and educate others.
“What would I teach about this? The experiences and the things I have seen. Going through mental health and fighting depression alone is not easy,” he added.
Funny Face’s struggles with mental health became public amid a turbulent period involving his relationship with the mother of his children, Vanessa.
The comedian repeatedly accused her of denying him access to their daughters after the pair’s relationship broke down, sparking emotional social media outbursts and public confrontations.
The tension between the two escalated in 2020 and 2021, with accusations, emotional exchanges and family disputes playing out publicly.
During that period, Funny Face frequently spoke about missing his children and the emotional toll the separation had on him.
His struggles eventually led to several troubling incidents, including public breakdowns and a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation after concerns were raised about his mental health.
