Musician Sista Afia has disclosed that her decision to pursue secular music came as a surprise to her family due to their strong Christian background and close ties to Archbishop Duncan-Williams.
Speaking in an interview on Angel FM on Tuesday, May 26, the singer disclosed that her family initially expected her to become a gospel artiste instead of taking the secular music route.
“My family have always been trained in the way of God, and they love God. And so they didn’t expect me to be a secular artiste but rather a gospel artiste.”
The host pointed out that during her early days in the music industry, her style and appearance gave the impression that she might eventually become a gospel musician.
However, Sista Afia admitted that things later changed, explaining that sometimes people have to adapt to achieve certain goals.
According to her, “sometimes, you have to act in a particular way to get what you want.”
When asked whether Archbishop Duncan-Williams had ever raised concerns about any of her songs or public actions, she dismissed the idea and insisted that there had been no complaints from him.
The singer further explained that she is not the only member of the family pursuing a different path, mentioning her cousin, Dee Wills, as an example.
“Even his son, who’s my cousin, Dee Wills, is out there doing his thing, so how much more me?”
Sista Afia also clarified that she has never hidden her connection to the Duncan-Williams family but prefers not to speak about it constantly.
She concluded by teasing a possible future collaboration with Dee Wills, saying the right time would determine when it happens.
