Gospel musician Akosua Agyapong has criticised some health practitioners in Ghana, alleging that their actions contribute to the loss of patients’ lives.
Speaking in an interview with Nayas on Experience in Life, monitored by GhanaWeekend on Wednesday, June 24, Akosua claimed that some doctors and nurses turn away patients who require urgent medical attention, often citing a lack of available beds and referring them to other health facilities.
According to her, patients should be given immediate care before any decision is made to transfer them elsewhere.
“Doctors and nurses in this country are killing citizens, yet they still have their licences and continue working. Someone can come to your hospital and, instead of administering first aid and trying to save the person’s life, you tell them there is no bed and ask them to go to another hospital.”
She questioned whether health workers would treat their own relatives in the same manner, adding that some patients lose their lives due to such actions.
To support her claims, Akosua recounted a story shared by a woman who appeared on her television programme.
According to the musician, the woman alleged that her 24-year-old daughter died after a nurse reportedly administered the wrong injection.
Akosua said the nurse was allegedly unable to read instructions written by a doctor and subsequently gave the patient an incorrect injection, which the family believes led to the young woman’s death.
The musician further stated that she plans to visit three unnamed health facilities with cameras to expose what she described as wrongdoing within those institutions.
