Amina Mutawakil, popularly known as Fine Chef, is taking her community-focused initiative, Flavors for Impact, to Fuu DA in Tamale on Friday, October 16, 2026, with a programme designed to promote food education, entrepreneurship, indigenous food culture and community development.
The initiative, organised by Fine Chef and The Cake O’Clock Bakery, will mark this year’s World Food Day with practical cooking activities, nutrition education and interactive sessions aimed at equipping young people with valuable life skills and opportunities within the food industry.
“Flavors for Impact is more than an event; it is a movement to use food as a tool for education, empowerment and community development,” Amina Mutawakil said.
She explained that the initiative seeks to educate and empower young people, preserve indigenous food culture and create sustainable opportunities within communities.
Following an outreach programme at Kumbungu DA last year, the initiative is returning with an expanded programme at Fuu DA in Tamale, bringing its message of learning, empowerment and cultural preservation to more students.
Food as a tool for education and empowerment
The 2026 edition will feature a range of activities designed to make learning practical, engaging and relevant to the everyday lives of students.
Activities will include a student cooking competition and practical cooking sessions, alongside lessons on food and nutrition, personal hygiene, oral hygiene and food safety.
Students will also participate in discussions about careers in the food industry, entrepreneurship and opportunities across the food value chain. These sessions are intended to broaden their understanding of how culinary skills can translate into careers, businesses and sustainable livelihoods.
Another key focus will be challenging gender stereotypes surrounding cooking. Through guided conversations, the programme will emphasise that cooking is an essential life skill for everyone, regardless of gender.
Preserving Ghanaian food culture
Beyond practical skills, Flavors for Impact 2026 will promote indigenous foods and Ghanaian culinary heritage, encouraging young people to appreciate the cultural significance of local ingredients, traditional dishes and established food practices.
By introducing students to the value of indigenous cuisine, the initiative aims to encourage a stronger connection with Ghana’s food heritage while highlighting opportunities to build businesses and livelihoods around local food resources.
A major highlight will be the Cook & Share session, during which food will be prepared and shared with students and members of the surrounding community. The programme will also feature student engagement activities, learning exercises and prizes to encourage participation.
The combination of practical cooking, education and shared meals is intended to demonstrate how food can bring people together while creating opportunities for learning and community engagement.
Building opportunities through food
For Amina Mutawakil, the initiative extends beyond a single day’s activities. Its broader vision is to use food as a means of inspiring young people, preserving cultural heritage and encouraging sustainable community development.
By introducing students to nutrition, food safety, entrepreneurship and culinary careers, Flavors for Impact seeks to demonstrate that food can play an important role in education and economic empowerment, as well as in everyday life.
The initiative also provides a platform for partners and sponsors to contribute to a programme focused on youth development and community engagement.
