Actress Yvonne Nelson is calling for the legalisation of weed in Ghana.
According to the popular actress, the legalisation of weed only for medicinal reasons is justifiable enough to be considered by lawmakers in the country.
Speaking on Class FM, the actress cum movie producer explained that her work with her glaucoma foundation exposed her to other medicinal benefits of weed.
She described Indian hemp as a “natural remedy that brings pressures down.”
While others such as the former boss of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), Mr Akrasi Sarpong, endorses are calling for legalisation of wee for export and other industrial use, Yvonne Nelson believes the most pressing concern for the legalisation of weed is for its medicinal purposes.
The sin city movie star also called for a strict control process if weed is legalised for health reasons.
“I have a glaucoma foundation and while reading and researching, I realised that marijuana actually helps with glaucoma, it’s really a natural remedy that helps bring the pressures down. I believe in other places in the world they control the dosage and all of that. So, for health reasons, if we can control it then yeah, they can legalise it, but I think people just abuse it and that’s where I have a problem with it. But it helps with a lot of diseases and illnesses,” she said.
The legalisation of weed has been a contentious issue in the country in recent time.
While some are of the view that its abuse could potentially wreck a nation, others have argued that the legalisation of weed is a gold mine yet to be tapped.
