Ghanaian filmmaker and the Creative Director of Digital Creative Media, Salifu Abdul Hafiz has appealed to Corporate institutions to lend support to creatives.
He said these companies should not only lend financial assistance to the entertainment industry but also allow them to access other facilities.
He said this in an interview with Shikakope, a Ghanaian camera store operator.
“I’m encouraging Corporate Ghana, private sector, the government and everyone that when creatives come to you, open up to them,” he said.
“It’s not only the funding aspect but especially when we want to use your space grant our requests because we are not bad people. We only want to use your space to create content that all of us will enjoy,” he added.
He cited an example with the current lockdown as a results of COVID-19 outbreak.
“See this lockdown that happened, people were home on their phones and TV enjoying content from creatives. Imagine a world without creatives. Imagine it,” he noted.
Creative Artists in Ghana have over the years, remonstrated lack of resources to push their trade.
Even though the government has promised to set up a Creative Arts Fund to support the arts sector, that has not come to fruition because the Creative Arts Law which gives assent to the establishment of the fund is yet to be passed.
Hafiz is known for shooting videos the BBC, USAID, IFAD, Idris Elba, Mr Eazi, FuseODG, Sarkodie, Obrafour, Da Hammer, E.L. and Guru.
