A few years ago, OB Amponsah would swear never to leave his optometry profession but it appears reality is dawning on the Ghanaian comedian.
OB has said in an interview with NY DJ on BTM Afrika that he feels that he might have to say good bye to the profession he trained for, and concentrate fully on comedy.
According to OB, the comedy job pays him more than he earns as an optometrist for which reason he does not actively practice the profession in recent times.
He says he now does consultations on contract basis.
When asked if he feels he would finally rest the medical job, he answered in the affirmative.
“I used to dodge that question [the possibility of leaving optometry] but I feel like it is coming. The time is coming I will fully do comedy. Very soon,” he said.
OB Amponsah, who trained as an optometrist at the University of Cape Coast has earned his spurs in the Ghanaian entertainment industry as one of the most sought-after stand-up comedians.

Apart from headlining and emceeing a lot of shows in Ghana, his name will also go down the history of Ghanaian comedy as one of the comedians who shut down a comedy show in Nigeria.
His performance in Nigeria at the ‘Lords of the Ribs’ which was held on September 28 and September 29, 2019, at the Eko Hotel, still lingers on the minds of comedy lovers who watched it.
He has also headlined his own shows in Ghana including his 2021 sold-out show dubbed ‘Popular But Broke.’
