Nigerian comic actor and digital content creator, Mr. Macaroni, has advised Nigerians not to put pressure on celebrities to share their opinions on every issue of national interest.

The vociferous showbiz personality who spoke up strongly against the SARS attacks in Nigeria about two years ago, is dedicated to holding leadership accountable for their chinks in the system but would not want the public to goad celebrities on to chart this cause.

He said doing a panel discussion at the Digital Content Creators’ Brunch of the 8th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards which currently ongoing in Nigeria.

“Part of this pressure is from the society. When something happens you now put pressure on people that don’t want to say anything. Everybody is putting pressure on celebrities because they are celebrities. They don’t have to say anything. You know why? Are you holding doctors to the same responsibility? Are you holding bankers? Are you holding footballers? So because these people are in entertainment and they are popular everybody would say ‘you, you are just quiet. Then people will say things they are not supposed to say,” he said.

He further noted that: “people need to know that entertainers are popular by virtue of the work that they do. If people enjoy your acting or your music, they will follow you and you will become popular. So people are in the business primarily for entertainment. Any other thing is secondary, so I think people should cut entertainers some slack.”

However, speaking during the panel discussion  Mr. Macaroni said he personally aims at positively affecting positive with the content he produces and not just to cause amusement.

He was part of a panel of digital content creators including Kiekie who had a discussion on how to have a mutual partnership with MultiChoice platforms and how to use their crafts to affect society.

The Digital Content Creators’ Brunch is one of the many activities lined up for this year’s awards festival.

The main award event will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2022 in Lagos, Nigeria.
