Ghanaian dancer, Dancegod Lloyd has responded to claims by critics that dance moves created by them to promote artistes’ songs, are becoming ‘one-way’ and boring.
Speaking to Sammy Flex, he said those dance moves are informed by the lyrical content of the artistes’ songs. So if they want something different, they need to develop content that depart from what they usually churn out.
“Let to me alone, I would let them dance to whatever I will create but not everybody at home can do what I put out there,” he said.
He also added that in the creative process, he discusses with the artistes on the moves they can easily dance to or the ones the public can easily perform.
“When I am creating something, I think about the artiste a lot. I actually work with the artiste a lot. When I go to them, I tell them the moves I have brought on the table or on board and ask them which one they feel comfortable with because most of the artistes don’t know how to dance,” he said.
”The only thing we have to do is, maybe they should do songs that we can do new dance steps to,” Lloyd further stated.
This comes after Entertainment journalist Kwame Dadzie wrote in a Facebook post sighted by ghanaweekend.com that the dance moves that are created for the artistes’ songs in recent times appear too similar.
He explained that this is a result of ‘creative fatique.’ Because there are not too many dancers in this trade, the few ones available are deluged with work from artistes. This, he claims, saps the dancers’ creativity.
Kwame, therefore, called on the creative industry to help discover and promote more dancers so there will be diversity in the works they create.
Dance videos have become integral part of music promotion in the digital space. Artistes push their songs with specially created dance moves, then invite music lovers to do a challenge with it.
Music business executives have also posited that this strategy is one of the most effective means of music promotion since the emergence of digital media.
Some artistes who have benefitted from this plan are Sefa, Stonebwoy, Kelvynboy, Kuami Eugene, Edem, among a blizzard of other acts.
