Radio presenter and musician, Mohammed Abubakar, popularly known in showbiz as Blakk Rasta, has said that he does not like Blakk Sherif’s chart-topping song, ‘Kwaku the Traveller.’
“I personally didn’t like the song [Kwaku the Traveller],” he said in an interview with Attractive Mustapha.
This comes a few weeks after he told Citi TV on their ‘Upside Down’ show that Blakk Sherif shot into prominence by luck and that if he was not careful he would be a one-way artiste.
The issue stoked controversy in the media space, causing Black Sherif to reply. In his response, the 20-year-old artiste said Blakk Rasta may not have listened to all his old songs, a reason he made that statement.
He also refuted Rasta’s claim that he became successful merely out of luck.
In the new interview with Attractive, Blakk Rasta talked about how the ‘Kwaku the Traveller’ song has died down after people started comparing Black Sherif to already established acts.
He also said he had observed that the new crop of musicians does not last in the system. According to him, after the public hailed Gyakie when she first got into the music industry, she has now lost her relevance and her song ‘Forever’ is buried.
“Where is Gyakie right now, are you still hearing about Gyakie, you are an entertainment writer look at the hype they gave to Gyakie and now she is nowhere to be found,” Blakk Rasta said.
He reiterated that the Nigerian song Buga has buried Black Sherifs “Kwaku the traveller” and now people have forgotten about him and dancing to Buga everywhere.
Kwaku the Traveller has recorded over 75 million streams in its first month of release. The song, produced by Joker Nharnah, peaked at Number 1 in both Ghana and Nigeria on the Apple Music Chart.
In the same month, Shazam announced that the song was the most searched song on the app.
It also went #1 on Triller, #1 on Deezer, #1 on Boomplay Hot Trending 100, and also entered Spotify Viral 50 charts with #1 in Sweden, #5 in the UK, #10 on Spotify Global, #2 in Norway, #3 in Denmark, #6 in both Netherlands and Belgium, #9 in France among others.
