Rapper Amerado has revealed that he will not succumb to public pressure to live a flashy celebrity lifestyle.
In a recent interview with MX24TV, Amerado said that he has been questioned by his coursemates about why he is still pursuing a university education given his financial success as a celebrity.
However, Amerado explained that he refuses to live a fake life, such as driving a Range Rover when he cannot afford it, just to please society.
He recalled an incident where his classmates asked him why he was still going to university when he was already wealthy and could afford to live comfortably without an education.
“I told them that I wanted to gain more knowledge before I become too wealthy.”
The ‘Kwaku Ananse’ rapper acknowledges that people have certain expectations of celebrities, such as expecting them to drive expensive cars and live luxurious lifestyles but he believes it is important to stay true to oneself and not let the public’s perceptions dictate how you live your life.
He explained that he is content to live a modest life and focus on his music and education.
“I remember after one class, my colleagues came to me, and then they said they would want to have a chitchat with me. They sat me down and they did an interview. Like, ‘Why is it that you have all the money? You are an artiste, you have a car, and you are coming back?’ and I said, ‘I don’t have all the money. I want to seek all the knowledge first.
“When you have celebrity status, people have a certain image of you. Fans want to see you in a Range Rover, but it all boils down to you and your story. People know me as that guy from Kumasi who’s been struggling to make it to the top.
“You don’t expect me to drive a Range Rover while I can’t cater for my mother. I don’t let people’s perceptions get a hold of me. I just live my life as a normal guy. When I have, I give. When I don’t, I seek,” he said.
